Before leaving Camp Orkila, every participant on one of our kayak trips must first complete a wet exit or "flip-flop" in their kayak. Participants must flip their boat over while they remain in the cockpit, submerge and release their spray skirts to float back to the surface - aided by their personal floatation device (PFD).
In the above video, Orkila Instructor Madelyn Player demonstrates a flip test in her single kayak aided by a paddle float. While a few participants may have the opportunity to paddle single kayaks, most will paddle in double kayaks with a partner and work together to flip and then re-enter their boats.
